In the 21st century, rarely has British folk music been in better shape than it is right now. Alongside rich and bizarre tune traditions from all throughout the British Isles, love songs, murder ballads, pagan carols, rebel songs, songs of struggle, and tales of the supernatural coexist with songs of passion, power, transgression, and brutality that are enough to ignite a thousand modern tragedies. The roots of folk music in Britain go as far back as the Middle Ages, and despite the appearance that we are moving digitally farther and farther away from the analog world from which traditional songs and their stories originate, the thirst for human connection that lies at the core of the folk tradition has not abated.
